Year-End Gifts

Year-End Gifts

What is year-end giving?

The holiday season, beginning with Thanksgiving, is when many people are in the spirit of gift-giving. Thus, it was coined “The Season of Giving” or “year-end giving.”

As people spend time shopping for loved ones and receiving gifts, they are also often compelled to give back to nonprofits that help change lives for others, making it the perfect time to give back to the organizations doing good in the community.

Why is year-end giving important?

Charitable giving during Giving Season is essential for Manatee Children’s Services because it is the time of year when we receive most of the donations that make our services possible.

Our agency relies on support from our community to provide services that go above and beyond what is typically covered through federal, state, and local funding. Such services include enrichment activities for foster children in our residential program, household stables for low-income caregivers, and improvements to our facilities that help MCS enhance services to victims.

When you support MCS, you are giving more than money. You are saying that you believe in our mission to break the cycle of child abuse through prevention, intervention, shelter, and treatment for all children and families. Your support continues the vision started by Carol Chamberlain over 40 years ago.

What are the benefits of year-end giving?

Holiday Spirit

Holiday giving offers a wonderful opportunity to teach family members about gratitude and compassion for others. Choosing a charity together and providing a gift can be a bonding experience for families during this time of year.

Tax Benefits

End of year giving = tax benefits. As the end of a tax year approaches, individuals may be focused on their personal income tax planning. For individuals who itemize deductions, a gift to a qualified charitable organization may allow them to claim a charitable contribution deduction against their taxable income. If a gift is deductible, it will reduce an individual’s taxes paid based on the income tax bracket in which they fall. Any donation counts as long as it’s made online or postmarked by December 31.

Happiness

Studies have found that donating money increases people’s happiness more than spending it on themselves. With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, who couldn’t use a little extra cheer knowing their gift makes the world a better place?

Employer matches

Your employer may match your donation. Gift matching allows your donation to go further with MCS. Check with your employer to see if they have an employee gift match program.
