FAQ’s

Manatee Children’s Services is here to help our community. We believe in helping children in dangerous situations and providing valuable resources to our community. Do you have unanswered question? Please see our list of frequently asked questions and find an answer now.

The best way to help a child is to report abuse to 1-800-96ABUSE, even if you are unsure of whether abuse has occurred. By reporting, you can help save a child’s life safely and anonymously.

Manatee Children’s Services does not remove children from the home. When abuse is reported, our intervention team conducts a forensic interview and medical examination. The findings are reported to law enforcement, at which point the determination of removal is made with the priority of the child’s safety.

Although Manatee Children’s Services works closely with DCF, the two entities are not the same. DCF monitors the family’s case after an abuse report is made.

Many people confuse MCS with CPS. Although the two have similar names and work closely together, CPS is a division of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

The best way to help is by making a donation to support our ongoing programs. There are many ways you can do this. Please visit our Donate page or contact Development Coordinator, Krista Post, at kristap@mcsfl.com for more information.

MCS provides a full spectrum of programs serving over 12,000 children and families annually. Since its inception in 1977 as the Manatee County’s first and only emergency shelter for abused children in foster care, MCS has grown to offer programs in treatment, prevention, intervention, and residential services.
